Kraig Biocraft Laboratories to Furlough Non-Essential Staff Through March 31

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. (OTCQB: KBLB) (“the Company”), the leading developer of spider silk based fibers, announces that beginning today, it is furloughing all non-essential staff until at least April 1, 2020, due to concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19. The implementation of these furloughs is in line with the leading health officials’ guidelines to help slow down the spread of coronavirus and to protect the health and safety of our staff. The Company is not currently aware of any member of its team being personally affected by COVID-19.

The Company does not take this step lightly and believes it to be necessary to address the emerging and ongoing challenge that the COVID-19 outbreak represents globally. This decision was made in an abundance of caution and will primarily impact staff at our fully owned subsidiary, Prodigy Textiles, in Vietnam and will result in the temporary closing of silk rearing operations at that facility. The Company plans to take additional measures to limit the financial impact to its furloughed staff.

Based on a recent commercial silk test production run, completed earlier this month, at the Vietnamese facility, the Company believes it will be well positioned to relaunch commercial production of its ecofriendly high-performance fibers.

Operations and progress at the Company’s research headquarters in the US will be largely unaffected by this decision. The Company and its management have issued guidelines to its US team and implemented additional sterilization and social distancing protocols to minimize the impact of this unprecedented global event.

“The health and safety of our team is our top priority,” said CEO and Founder, Kim Thompson. “Beyond the moral obligation we have to our team, I believe that prioritizing their safety today will ensure a stronger future for our staff, our products and the Company. Our thoughts and prayers are for those around the world who have been personally effected by this disease as we all work together to combat its spread.”

Thompson has decided not to collect nor accrue any salary while the Company has a significant number of staff on furlough.

Kraig Labs encourages everyone to follow the guidelines outlined by our leading health officials in maintaining social distancing in order to prevent the unnecessary spread of COVID-19.

The Company would like to remind all interested parties that it has scheduled an upcoming press conference to announce a major scientific breakthrough in spider silk technology. The live webcast will take place on April 16 at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time and will be broadcast on the Company website at www.kblbinvestors.com by navigating to “Webcasts”.

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories Implements New Measures to Ensure Year Round Production and Quality of its Commercial Silk Production

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. (OTCQB: KBLB) (“Company”), the leading developer of spider silk based fibers, announced that it has implemented new quality assurance management and production procedures at Prodigy Textiles, the Company’s Vietnamese subsidiary, based on lessons learned from its production rollout.

The Company embarked on an aggressive winter production rollout to accommodate urgent requests for materials from specific collaboration partners and potential customers. The result was a launch during what is normally the Vietnamese silk offseason. In this process we discovered and addressed two challenges, obtaining quality mulberry for feedstock and climate controls in the new facility during the offseason. The Company has addressed these issues as described below.

The production hiccup caused by the winter launch is not expected to impact the Company’s business plan or prospects. Kraig Labs intends to be first to market and is keeping the momentum going by continuing its breeding programs, as the Company’s plans to produce its first commercial batch of Dragon Silk are still in progress.

For the immediate production run, the winter temperature has resolved itself, as we enter February, which is generally considered a better month for rearing silk worms. Whereas, for the following winters, the Company will enhance its climate control protocols, to ensure uniform and consistent year round production.

Kraig labs has also taken steps to ensure that feedstock will not disrupt its future winter production cycle, by utilizing land set aside from the government to immediately plant an additional 40 acres of mulberry trees. This increased capacity and continuous supply of high quality mulberry is an important component of the Company’s production operations. This expansion of lands available to the Company and its work with the local farming cooperatives will allow for tighter control and ensure that this key input is readily available and of the highest quality.

Additionally, the Company installed and began utilizing specialized fiber testing equipment, which mirrors that of its research headquarter, in the United States, to monitor fiber performance, including tensile strength and elasticity. This equipment allows for the identification and selective mating of the best performing silkworms.

The Company has remained in communication with its collaboration partners, informing them of this temporary delay in shipping, who have been supportive of these production actions and look forward to receiving the highest quality fibers.

The Company’s technology is sound, as the tests of the Prodigy Textile production facility fibers mirror the results from its US laboratory. Kraig Labs will continue to monitor and implement procedures to ensure its product meets its high standards and its potential commercialization partners’ expectations.

“Kraig Labs is laser focused on the commercialization of our exceptional materials. Recognizing challenges to that vision and quickly adapting to overcome those obstacles is a core piece of our corporate DNA,” said COO Jon Rice. “By implementing the new processes, Kraig Labs continues to show its commitment to upholding sustainable fiber production and goals, as well as our commitment to our valued business partners. Despite our winter launch hiccup, we remain on track to meet our goal of delivering superior fibers to our clients.”

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories announces Commercial Production Update

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. (OTCQB: KBLB) (“the Company”), the leading developer of spider silk based fibers, announced that it is providing an update on Prodigy Textiles’, the Company’s Vietnamese subsidiary, production operations.

The Company began production operations, at its Vietnamese subsidiary, in October of 2019. Due to climate conditions and farming cycles, silk is traditionally not produced during the winter in Vietnam. In its efforts to bring its revolutionary silk materials to market, as soon as possible, the Company pushed ahead, rearing its silkworms through the winter months.

The Company hoped to overcome the production challenges of operating in the off season by utilizing its temperature controlled laboratories. While initially highly successful, the Company began to face setbacks in sustaining production during this traditional off season. Fluctuating temperatures, and difficulties in sourcing high quality mulberry, led to production challenges. The Company has accelerated the planting of additional mulberry under contract and control to eliminate these issues for future production cycles.

The Company expects to re-ignite its production expansion over the next 30-45 days, as spring temperatures realign with production requirements. The Company will also use this growing season as an opportunity to improve its internal factory environmental control protocols. When all controls are in place, the Company believes that it can successfully reach year-round production.

“As with any company’s first large scale production run, we expected some delays and challenges. These small hurdles will cause a short delay, but we do not anticipate any negative impact to our long term plans, quality, or capacity,” said Jon Rice, COO. “We assembled an excellent team in Vietnam; they are tirelessly working to bring this vision of large scale spider silk production, from silkworms, to life. I am excited about the opportunities ahead for Kraig Labs and our eco-friendly spider silk materials.”

The outbreak of Coronavirus in China is not presently expected to have any significant impact on the Company or its operations. The Company does not source any materials or import from China, nor is China a major target market for the Company’s products.

Kraig Biocraft Laboratories’ Research Team Readies Next Breakthrough in Recombinant Spider Silk Performance

ANN ARBOR, Mich., – December 9, 2019 –Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. (OTCQB: KBLB) (“Company”), the leading developer of spider silk based fibers, announced today that its research and development (“R&D”) team has expanded their research focus far beyond the spider silk proteins in the Company’s Monster Silk® and Dragon SilkTM products.  These new protein designs have the potential to create new materials and open additional markets for the Company’s recombinant silk technologies.

With the additional research personal hired this year, the Company has been able to expand its R&D into new and exciting arenas. The lab team has recently identified innovative native protein sequences from an exotic species that has demonstrated performance beyond the capabilities of the Company’s current transgenics.

The DNA encoding, from specific portions of this species’ proteins, have been synthesized and are already in the Company’s labs. These proteins are believed to be responsible for the amazing performance that the native materials exhibit.

The R&D team employed its new “mix and match” assembly system, which allows for accelerated development and performance experimentation, to design the new DNA domains to integrate with the Company’s existing DNA constructs. This approach allows the Company to produce a fiber containing a blend of current technologies with new DNA constructs to form an array of new tailored materials.

“I am very excited by the possibilities these new DNA constructs can offer.  By incorporating these new designs with our proven ‘mix and match’ assembly system, we are opening new doors and a vast array of end material properties.” said Chief Scientist, Trevor Kane, Ph.D. “I applaud my team for the willingness and determination to continually expand the cutting edge of transgenic spider silk research.”

The Company believes that these new DNA constructs should enhance future transgenic silkworm capabilities, as the isolated DNA, in these new proteins, exhibit higher performance than the Company’s original baseline transgenic spider silk proteins.

While the Company’s R&D team continues to push the boundaries of scientific possibilities, the Company will continue to advance the commercialization of its current suite of technologies, which have different target markets. In fact, the Company’s production arm, Prodigy Textiles, is preparing to make its first commercial delivery of enhanced fibers in the first quarter of 2020.  In support of this phase, the Company’s COO will be travelling to Prodigy Textiles to oversee this exciting evolutionary step in its journey to commercialize and deliver spider silk on a global scale.

Rapid Expansion of recombinant Spider Silk production on track to grow Operations and yield Fibers for first significant fabric production run

ANN ARBOR, Mich., – December 3, 2019 –Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc. (OTCQB: KBLB) (“Company”), the leading developer of spider silk based fibers, announced today that Prodigy Textiles, the Company’s Vietnamese subsidiary, has completed hatching the second generation of silkworms, as it continues to expand production at its factory in Quang Nam province.  This second generation is several hundred times larger than the first generation.  The resulting cocoons from this production cycle will be used to fulfill the first commercial shipments from this new factory.

With hatching complete, the Prodigy Textiles team is now busy rearing this significantly expanded silkworm population.  The Company anticipates these silkworms becoming cocoons over the next two weeks, with this batch of specialized silk expected to be completed by Christmas.  This cycle represents the largest single month’s production of recombinant spider silk in the Company’s history.  The Company expects this record to be quickly broken, as it continues to expand its Vietnamese operations, heading into 2020.

The Company will be sending its COO, Jon Rice, to Vietnam to oversee the completion of this second generation.   During this trip Rice will work with the Prodigy team, as it prepares to convert the resulting cocoons into finished silk yarn.  Rice will also set the stage for further expansion with the next production cycle slated to begin in early January.

“The smooth transition from our first production batch to this much larger second generation is a testament to the quality of the great team we have put together in Vietnam,” said Rice.  “I look forward to working hand in hand with them, later this month, to plan out the next phase of our rapid growth and to implement additional processes to support our expanding operations.”

“The pace of our production scale up is exceeding even my expectations,” said CEO and Founder, Kim Thompson.  “We’ve always believed that once we launched production in Vietnam that our growth would be rapid. Today’s announcement that we have begun the second production cycle is another in a series of exciting milestones for spider silk commercialization and Kraig Labs.”
